The countdown is on for votes to help Northumberland retain its crown as the Best Destination in the UK.
Voting for the British Travel Awards closes in a month’s time on September 30 and Northumberland County Council and Northumberland Tourism are urging businesses, residents and visitors to vote for the county to retain the title.
Last year Northumberland finally picked up the Gold for the Best Destination/County at the British Travel Awards having been runner-up behind Cornwall for the previous four years.
The winner of the prestigious award will be announced on November 27 at an event in London.
Once people have voted they are also being asked to show their support on social media by using a specially designed i-frame on Facebook.
The push for votes comes on the back of the latest tourism figures for Northumberland revealed that more than 10 million people visited the county in 2018 spending more than £1 billion.
Cllr Cath Homer, cabinet member for Culture, Art, Leisure and Tourism at Northumberland County Council said: “Winning the award last year was an unbelievable achievement for the whole county and demonstrated the hardwork and dedication of everyone involved in the tourism industry.
“The award has been a real game changer for the county with a whole host of other accolades for Northumberland coming off the back of it. Added to these, the latest tourism figures show that Northumberland continues to be the destination of choice for visitors.
“We want to ensure that Northumberland retains its rightful crown as the Best Destination in the UK so we need everyone to get behind us and vote for Northumberland before the deadline in four weeks time.”
