Businesses and residents are being urged to discover Northumberland in a new way through a new advertising campaign launched this week.
The Discover our Land campaign, which was launched in January and is led by Northumberland County Council, is now spreading its message through an advertising campaign targeting key railway stations and bus routes.
The adverts encourage people to sign up to the campaign and to “Discover Northumberland’s stories”.
Discover our Land aims to promote the county as a great place to live, work, visit and invest by building a community of people who can champion everything that’s great about the county, to encourage people from outside the county to build a career here, invest and grow their business, set up home or explore and visit.
The adverts feature a number of campaign supporters including The Old Boat House Group, which has restaurants in Blyth and Amble; The Bassett family who relocated here when Dad, Darren took up his role as Wing Commander at RAF Boulmer and the Port of Blyth.
Adverts have been placed at Morpeth, Cramlington and Corbridge railway stations helping to promote the campaign within the county. This will be supported by a series of bus advertising both within the county and across the region, which are estimated to be seen by more than 70,000 people.
Since the campaign launched more than 200 businesses and individuals have signed up to support the campaign and become campaign ambassadors. The campaign has reached more than 1.2m people across social media.
Leader of the council, Cllr Peter Jackson said: “We have had a fantastic response since we launched Discover our Land earlier this year.
“For too long Northumberland hasn’t been fully recognised by the rest of the UK and beyond, for its unique offer and special assets. Now, through Discover our Land, we are urging businesses and residents to work together and help spread the message about what is great about our county.”
Cllr Cath Homer, cabinet member for Culture, Arts, Leisure and Tourism at the council, said: “This advertising campaign will support the work we have already been doing to promote Discover our Land, as well as helping to engage with a wider audience.
“We need everyone in Northumberland to get behind the campaign and help us to share the stories of the county, whether that’s our wealth of history and heritage, our fantastic visitor offer or our innovative businesses.
“People can get involved by following and sharing our social media channels, signing up to become a campaign ambassador or by starting those conversations about Northumberland within their networks.”
